Getting America on the right track? Or derailing the constitution?
Not that this is a bad idea but since the Government can’t run scAMTRAK at a profit what makes him believe that this will be any different?
The interesting word here is ‘Investment’ If this is such a good idea, you would think that private enterprises would be clamoring to build such a rail system, but they are not for a reason. It’s unprofitable.
With costs estimated at several hundred billion dollars, let’s just speculate, $500 Billion, the rail service would have to produce a $30 billion profit to justify the expense, and that’s a modest 6% return. Lets also speculate that the profit margin is 17% that means that it would have to generate sales of 176 billion. The US airline industry consists of over 300 companies and generates revenue of about 120 billion….anyone see a problem here?
I have two questions for the President.
1. Where is the money going to come from?
2. What enumerated power in the constitution, gives you the authority to ‘invest’ our money this way.
I won’t hold my breath.
The bottom line is this;
If this is such a great idea, private enterprise would have built this years ago, High Speed trains aren’t a new concept. Just stop spending our money and follow the Constitution. Remember? The one you swore to protect and defend?

Blame Bush; throw a bone to the center and hope they will chase; polish the manure pile, but it’s still manure; continue to step on the Constitution.
My Response to the Presidents’ State of the Union address:
The only ‘Change’ that Barack seems to want is for the Republicans to stop being just that and capitulate and do what he wants done, not what the America wants. The polls show with overwhelming support that the direction he is going is the wrong one, yet this arrogant man refuses to believe it.
I won’t blather on for 3 pages picking apart the little things that I found interesting, i.e. Sen. Reid falling asleep, Nancy about to genuflect and kiss his ‘grace’s’ ring upon entering the house chamber, or Justice Alito breaking silence (hint to B.O.….don’t piss off the justices, they are loyal to the bench and will adjudicate as such, they are 1/3 of the Government you dolt, and will check your power without so much as a ‘by your leave’.)
I won’t even get into the weeds with the silly quotes like ‘Omaha Beach was in doubt’ which it was not, difficult, but not in doubt. No, let’s just look at the Constitutionality of what he wants to do, in no particular order
Fee’s on Banks – where in the Constitution allows you to punitively tax a sector of society without due process?
A teacher’s contract that was extended so they were not laid off – Where in the constitution does the Government have the right to intercede on behalf of a party in a contract and where does is the authority to regulate education?
Where in the Constitution allows the Government or President to:
Write a ‘Jobs Bill’?
Loan $30 billion of tax payer money to businesses, small or large?
Build a high speed rail in Florida, Amtrak is already losing money)?
Spend money ‘creating’ ‘green jobs’’?
End financial speculation?
Invest in ‘green research’ (what is the projected ROI? None?)?
Increase exports? (Are you going to ‘force’ other nations to buy?)
Reduce poverty? (40 yrs ago, the rate was 13%, billions later,13%)
Take over Health insurance (No Tort reform?) no surprises there.
Have your wife chairing a Gov panel.
Bypass Senate vote and issue an executive order.
Loan money to ‘students’ that don’t have to pay it back if they work in Government? But if you go to work for America, you pay! (Let’s build an Elite class, mmmm?)
That’s all I picked up, if there is more let me know.
The bottom line is that this President is out of touch with Main St.. Can’t or won’t fix what is needed, and believes he is right no matter what anyone says to the contrary.
Even with a Super Majority he can’t close the deal. He lost the Olympics for Chicago, Failed in Copenhagen and the Chinese bullied him, fumbled Healthcare reform. Weakened our National Security giving protection to terrorist instead of defeating them, Can’t get anything done because of partisanship even with a super majority, believes the banks caused the crisis,(what about Fanny and Freddie Mr. President?) voted for their Bailout and now can’t find a chair now that the music has stopped. Promised Transparency with a mud filter, and offers no plan to fix Social Security.
Now, some may say “C’mon Michael, he hasn’t done anything right?
Mmmmm. Ok, one thing. He sent more troops to Afghanistan, but not enough.
